Read Me At Night — A Short Story

Short horror story Rebekah Koontz halloween thriller fiction writer

I like to go on drives at night; quiet, peaceful strolls around the suburban neighborhoods.

Autumn leaves crunch under the weight of my old Sedan. I crack the window, and a crisp breeze cools my face. Pumpkin spice wafts from the kitchens of model homes, houses all painted rose and cream. This is a place where nothing bad happens, where a girl like me can live alone.

But even when the darkness falls, my hair rises with the static of a threat looming in the doorways of my home.

A presence that I know isn’t there—but then I look again.

“Hi, my name’s Rebekah Koontz, and I’m a Jokaholic.”

“Hi Rebekah…”

“I don’t know how this came about—my…habit. I just can’t help it. But I guess that’s what they all say.” I look around the room. “We all say.”

The group stares at their shoes and nods.

My Story: Published

I’ve been a part of this website called Teen Ink. They publish stories online, where they can be voted for and commented on and can even be published in the Teen Ink magazine.

Well, a few days ago, I submitted my story, “Forever And Always.”

Today, I got an e-mail saying my article has been VOTED #1 on the website! I think my heart fluttered.

I just checked, and now it’s in the #2 spot, which is a little disheartening at first, but still!

Please read it and vote. It’d mean a lot to me. Maybe if it gets enough votes they’ll put it in the magazine!!
