Koontz Family Sings!

Koontz Family Sings!

You all caught a glimpse of our singing in my A Sunday In My Life post.

However, that is a mixed ensemble me and my parents are in. What you didn’t know was that there’s another member in our family–besides my older brother who is off to sea– who had yet to make his debut on the stage.

Before I get into that, a little history lesson.

My Dad, In Photographs

Today is my dad’s birthday. You all know my dad. You’ve seen him around.

And tell me you didn’t miss this rock star picture of him during Blogmas.

What I Got For Christmas 2014

DSC02608 (1)

I love reading What I Got For Christmas posts, so why not write my own?

Disclaimer: I am in no way bragging. (Everyone puts this disclaimer and for good reason, so I shall do the same.) I like reading these kind of posts because I’m nosy, and I think what you get says a lot about your personality. But if you’re the kind of person that is easily jealous, please read one of the other 357 posts up on my blog. It will be more enjoyable for the both of us that way.

The final thing I will say is that Christmas is in no way about the material presents, but about the greatest gift of our salvation in Jesus Christ, who was born on Christmas. Let’s not ever forget that. We have so much more to be thankful for.

All that to say, I’ll jump right into the post.

The Military Ball 2014, Part #1 — Get Ready With Me

DSC01722

Some of you may remember the Military Ball from last year. If you do, you’re my favorite.

In case you aren’t filled in, every year there is a Military Ball. My older brother is a merchant marine. Thus, he is invited to these military balls, providing us with the opportunity to spend a lot of money and join him. So we do.

Last year, it was just my brother and I. This year, we both had dates.

Ah yes, moving up in the world.

Happy Birthday Little Bro

Today is a very big day for someone. I’ll give you a hint. That someone isn’t me (even though I’m easing the dosage on my cough medications and now I can think clearly, which is – in fact – a useful trait in my day to day life. Go figure).

But no, not me.

He’s about as tall as me.

Can eat as many Cheetos puffs as me.

And he does in fact have the same last name as me.

It’s my little brother’s birthday! Streamers, and confetti, and fanfare all around!

Alarm Clocks – The Struggle

The alarm rings, whatever the sound is. Maybe it buzzes like a bird deranged. Maybe it’s a calm beep-boop tune. Maybe it’s the radio.

Whatever the case, you have two choices; hit snooze, or roll over and ignore it.

Let’s be honest. Actually getting out of bed is not one of the choices you’re considering.

Somehow, the bed that felt like a plank before has morphed into a fluffy marshmallow, sinking you into comfort and soft wonderful dreams. The light streaming into your window that was unceasing last night in your struggle for Zzz’s is now so easily shut out by a blanket over your face.

You’re going to stretch soon and attempt to wake up, you tell yourself. You’ll go to the kitchen and brew some coffee. You’re going to go take a shower and soon you’ll be wide awake.

$11 Thrift Haul

Because I needed to do something to blog about, I just had to go out and spend money. You guys practically forced me. I had to. I had no choice. There was also a 50% off sale. On the whole store.

Overwhelmed. I was overwhelmed. I’m still overwhelmed!

The truth is I had work for seven hours Saturday morning and didn’t feel like spending the rest of my now-free Saturday stuck at home. My family said there was a sale at the thrift store. I couldn’t believe we were still lounging about the house! We all got dressed, I put what I thought was around ten dollars of tip money in my wallet, and we sped on down to our favorite thrifting spot, eyes wide, lips licking, and rubbing our hands together in excited anticipation.

Our Last RV Test Run

As I said in my last post, last week’s “test run” wasn’t the first. We’ve been through quite a few motorhomes/RVs in our day and had a lot of fun.

Here’s the blog post I wrote on our last “test-run.” It was definitely bigger and nicer than our current one. But I wouldn’t say we degraded. We just adjusted to what life threw our way (and city policy lengths).

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, reading it again!
