For Bryce and my anniversary this year, we took the town by storm.
Literally, there was a freak storm.
But it didn’t keep us from enjoying our weekend. We packed the car, threw on some extra layers, ran to Walmart (because neither of us owned an umbrella), and headed out to Balboa Island for a beautiful day of quirky shops and beachfront views.
Neither of us had ever been there, so my parents gave me the lowdown of where to take Bryce for dinner and ice cream and what places to see.
Of course, I brought my camera.
We started by walking the shops on the island, and I took full advantage of the break in rainfall to snap a few pictures. Overcast is the best lighting for any footage.
The crazy thing is that when I asked Bryce to pose under this archway. I stepped back to get a better shot, just in time for a tree branch, leaves and all, to come twirl-flying between us. If I hadn’t moved, my day (and my head) would’ve been shot.
This guy was an incredibly good sport all day, allowing me to snap photos and position him on wet benches. (See the video for his epic sit on the blue bench.)
I’ve been really into plants lately. (The term worship may have been used yesterday. . .)
So if anyone has a little plant baby that they don’t want or can’t keep happy, I will adopt them into my little “revival clinic” near the living room coffee table. Just saying.
How cool is this succulent fountain?
Note the debris from the storm in the background.
Super fun day.
Thank you, blog family, for being a place I can share my pictures.
For all of you shouting, “you said you brought your camera, isn’t there a vlog?”
The answer is yes. Click below.
Thanks for reading!

There was so much joy in that video. I laughed too hard at the sitting on the wet bench part, as well as the *looks for Chris* part lol

Paul!!! Where have you been??!
The joy was uncontainable. We had so much fun! The craziness of the weather added to it. We keep saying we want to go back to Balboa, but without a freak storm, it just wouldn’t be the same.

Where have I been? Where have YOU been? (I say this for dramatic effect)
I agree, that storm looks like it made the trip what it was. Without it, there is no stop to get an umbrella, there’s no wet bench, there’s no dark and stormy background as you’re driving. It would almost be boring.

I have been waiting around for YOU! Lol.
Exactly! Without imminent danger, what’s the point?
