Sharpie Nails

I didn’t realize how versatile Sharpies really were. I mean, in middle school, my friends and I would Sharpie our toe nails to be rebellious, since our mothers wouldn’t let us wear black. Remember when Sharpies were ONLY black? Things were tough in our day.
Anyway, here’s the cheater version on how to do cool nail art! It’s a great way to work out your left hand, too. I actually did these on myself this time.

 Start with a base coat.

Then paint white, all but your accent nail.

Choose the color for your accent nail.

Excuse the paint. . I get it EVERYWHERE when I do my nails. I always wear short in case I spill on myself.

Then, be creative! I started with gold and black.

Looks kind of wedding-ring-eey, doesn’t it?

I loved the gold with the green color.

On the thumb, I tried doing a diagonal gold line with a silver fill-in, but the silver turned out this ugly green color and not silver.

I don’t know what that was about. . Maybe my silver is old? Has anyone tried using silver before?

I tried a green sharpie too, thinking it could go along with the accent nail, but I didn’t like it.

In the end, for the thumb, I colored it all in gold and added a black stripe along the top. The index, you can see I added stripes. They’re not perfect, because I found that the sharpie didn’t go on unless I used a dotting, short-strokes motion. Then the pinky I was going to go with a little-big-little dot pattern, but I messed up somewhere and went with it.

I tied the pinky in by using gold dots in the center.

For the left, I went with the same patterns, just on different fingers. And I traded the black stripes for gold on the accent nail.

And there you have it! I’m very impressed with myself and excited about these nails. I think they’re really cool. And they’re just coloring! These ones are kinda mystical looking. They remind me of the circus or a carnival or something.

I had a little trouble with smearing when I added my top coat, but that’s all you need to finish this look (and if you’re like me, you need to clean around the edges too).

Hey if you try this out, send me pictures on Instagram or Twitter (@RebekahKoontz)! I’d love to see what patterns and colors you use. =-)

P.S. Which hand do you like more?
